Ruger P89dc Serial Number Date

It seems to be present only on early P89. There is a serial number break point at 304-70000. I have found no evidence that it has anything to do with the switch to the ambidextrous decocker lever. That serial number cutoff has more to do with mag compatibility with guns below that number taking the older P85 mags and guns above taking the new P89 mag. My P89DC has serial no. 303-36xxx which dates it 1991 or in the P85 serial no. Ruger history chart shows the P89 to begin in 1993 with 304 -88013 serial no. Can anyone elaborate on this? I finally made it to Cherokee Gun to pick up my P89DC that bought off Gunbroker. It appears to have been carried more than it was fired. There’s typical carry wear, but extremely little signs of wear on its internals. The 305-xxxxx serial number dates to the first year of P89 production in 1993.

The Ruger P89 semi auto pistol is one of the 'P' series developed by Ruger with the series still in production today. Specifically, the P89 is an upgrade of the P85 which was discontinued in 1992.

The P89 is a rugged, strong, all metal 9mm handgun that is heavy and blocky.

The gun sports a safety or decocker according to whether it is the double action only or DA/SA model. I have two friends that have the P series pistols and I've had a good deal of experience shooting them.

In several firing sessions, one of my friends' P series Ruger had failure to feed issues and jammed repeatedly. The other has one that has performed flawlessly and is a tack driver.

Written reports from civilian users and police officers are generally quite favorable toward the P89.

The gun is easy and quick to take down and assemble. Many of these guns have been in use for quite a few years and are a workhorse for casual shooters, law enforcement and civilians who carry guns for self defense.

If you do enough research on these guns you begin to get a sense of the durability of the gun from dependable reviews and owners. Reports from people who have owned the guns for years and put countless thousands of rounds through them report the very used guns perform as they did when new.

Though they have been discontinued for a few years, used models are quite abundant and found in a lot of gun shops across the country generally for a very reasonable price. However, before buying a used one, give it a good looking over. Many of the used ones have endured thousands of rounds. Make sure the one you put down money for has been well cared for.

The Ruger P89 weighs 32 ounces, has a 4.5 inch barrel, and comes with a 10 or 15 round magazine, and sports 3 white dot sights.

Sorry for the short duration of this particular article on the Ruger p89 but there is not much more about this model other than what I've written. The Ruger P89 was discontinued in 2007. Ruger now makes a P95 that is the current version of this firearm.

Working with these guns didn't add much to my experience with a P series .45 I had a few years before this review. It was a deplorable disgrace of a gun. Performance was almost non-existent with repeated failures. That was with any kind of factory ammo tried. But I digress.

I have a 22 Hornet, 30-40 Krag and a 45/70 in my personal collection. I've let a few 223s roll by as I wasn't interested at the time.
I have another 45/70 in my business inventory which a guy is considering to host a 44 magnum barrel he has.

I've been pretty busy with pre-retirement work as well as personal stuff... Now that I am officially retired and am now a full time gun nut, biker and all around goof off sorta guy, I'll be working more diligently on this list! Keep those numbers coming in! Nothing is wasted!
We have 56 of the rifles accounted for, which (if we are to believe the 200 number) would be 28% of them found.
The SN gap data shows that we have found two consecutive pairs: 43023, 43024 and 55963, 55964.
The newest is 132-55964
The earliest is 132-39098
The biggest production gap appears to be between Dec-82 and Apr-83 with 11881 serial numbers skipped.
Just as a causal point of interest - I have 8 No 3 Rifles of my own spanning ship dates of Sept 1975 through April of 1981, and none of them that are NOT .44 caliber fall into the SN ranges of the one's we're tracking.
Now that I'm a professional loafer, I'll spiffy up the spreadsheet to make a more visually pleasant output!
Best regards, Pete
ETA - Ship dates of Jan-00 are essentially 'No Data'. If any of you have the ship dates for your rifles, please do post or pm that to me so I can update the spreadsheet!
Thanks guys!

Ruger1441 - Thanks! The consecutive to your rifle (42528) was part of a 6 gun set of #3s on Gunbroker a couple years back. (All 6 standard calibers) I darn near snagged 'em, but had other financial irons in the fire at the time. My notes indicate the bid was at 3900 with a 4200 Buy It Now.
If you happen to find out the ship date, it would be interesting to know!
So we have 57 accounted for... Earliest SN is 39098 and the newest is 55964.

Sure looks like a 1H in 458 Win. Mag. to me (D weight barrel, 24' long, not 20)). Either the seller mixed up the pictures, he doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's scamming.

He says it's a 416 which makes more sense. IF it was a No.1 44 Mag it would be a real treasure.
